How crypto casinos work, from the deposit address to the licence line

This guide walks through how a crypto casino works, from the deposit address to the licence line in the footer. Each step uses the casinos’ own terms. One example of why the details matter: Stake charges 1 USDT, about C$1.41 on September 26, 2026, on every USDT withdrawal.[6] [36] Below: deposits, balances, withdrawals, KYC, provably fair games, licences, and what Ontario and the other provinces mean for you.

The deposit: address, network, confirmations, memo

A crypto casino doesn’t charge your card. Its cashier gives you an address, and you send coins to it from your own wallet or exchange.

Three fields decide whether the coins arrive: the coin, the network and the address. Stake lists USDT on five networks and Winz on six.[5] [35] Pick the network first; the address the cashier then shows is for that network.

Some coins add a fourth field. XRP transfers can carry a destination tag, a number that tells a shared address whose deposit it is. If the cashier shows a tag or memo, send it with the coins.

Then comes the wait. The casino credits a deposit once the network has confirmed it enough times. Roobet waits for 1 confirmation on BTC and XRP, and 3 on ETH, LTC, USDT and USDC.[10] Minimums are small: 0.0001 BTC or 10 USDT at BitStarz, 0.13 mBTC at 7Bit.[3] [15]

The balance: in coins or converted

Once credited, your balance sits in the coin you sent or in fiat. BitStarz lists CAD among its currencies, and so do the terms of 7Bit and Winz.[2] [15] [23]

Stake runs a CAD wallet and pays CAD out by Interac e-Transfer, in up to 3 business days per its help centre.[34]

A balance held in BTC moves with Bitcoin’s price while you play; a CAD balance doesn’t. A USDT balance tracks the US dollar, so its CAD value moves with the exchange rate.

The withdrawal: two fees and the 1x rule

Two fees, not one: the casino’s and the network’s. The network fee depends on the blockchain; the casino fee, on its own terms.

Before either applies, most casinos want each deposit played through once. BitStarz’s terms subject every deposit to 1x wagering for anti-money-laundering reasons.[1] Stake says a deposit “must be wagered 100% before withdrawals or tips”.[7] Roobet: “You must wager 100% of your deposit amount.”[11]

KYC: when the ID request comes

Paying in crypto doesn’t switch off identity checks. Every casino here keeps the right to ask. Stake “reserves the right, at any time, to ask for any KYC documentation it deems necessary”.[4] Roobet’s terms use the same “at any time” wording, and a withdrawal can wait until “Your identity has been fully verified”.[9]

A few casinos publish the amount that triggers a check. Cloudbet requires verification once cumulative deposits reach 2,200 US dollars. FortuneJack’s FAQ: “Once total deposits reach $10,000, you’ll be asked for ID and proof of address.”[24] [26] Both are casinos we’ve checked but not ranked yet.

Winz’s terms add a hard edge: KYC not completed within two weeks can lead to “account termination and funds confiscation”.[20] Have your documents ready before the first withdrawal, not after.

Provably fair: seeds, nonce and the verifier

Provably fair lets you check a single round after it’s played. The casino picks a secret server seed and shows you a hash of it first. You add a client seed of your own. A nonce counts your bets. Once the server seed is revealed, you recompute each result from the three.

Cloudbet’s tool asks for exactly that: “paste your Server Seed, Client Seed, and Nonce”.[25] Each casino runs its own verifier for the games it names:

  • Stake: a provable fairness article for Stake Originals.[8]
  • Roobet: a verification page for its house games.[12]
  • Winz: a dedicated provably fair page.[22]
  • 7Bit: a fair-games page for BGaming titles.[18]
  • BitStarz: its FAQ calls its SoftSwiss games “100% provably fair”, with a “Provability” button.[2]

FortuneJack’s FAQ states the usual limit plainly: “Only instant and crash games are provably fair.”[26] Each page covers the games it names, not the whole lobby.

The Tobique Gaming Commission’s public register lists 7Bit’s operator, Saphirix Solutions, as a licence holder.[19] Tobique is a First Nation in New Brunswick. 7Bit’s own terms exclude New Brunswick and Ontario.[15]

Ontario and the provinces

Under section 207 of the Criminal Code, a province may “conduct and manage” a lottery scheme, including one run through a computer.[28] Each province runs its own online gambling. Ontario also lets private operators register and run sites through iGaming Ontario, since April 4, 2022.[29]

Stake, 7Bit and Winz also forbid using a VPN to get around a block.[4] [15] [20] In Ontario, the sites you can play are on iGaming Ontario’s list of registered sites.

Size, live dealers and faucets

Largest? No one publishes audited market-share figures for crypto casinos, so any “largest” label is a guess. They do publish lobby sizes. Roobet says “over 7,848 games” and Winz “over 6,000 games”. 7Bit says “over 10,000 games” on its home page but “over 7000” on its About page.[33] [21] [16] [17] Our rating method ignores lobby size.

Live dealers. Many crypto lobbies have live tables; 7Bit lists them among its games.[16] Live games often count little toward bonus wagering: 0% under 7Bit’s welcome bonus terms, 10% under Cloudbet’s.[32] [24] The provably fair pages above cover in-house games, not live streams.

Faucets. A faucet hands out tiny amounts of crypto for free, usually after a captcha or a timer. Some casinos use the word for a small top-up when a balance hits zero. Faucets aren’t part of our cashier checks, so we don’t rate them.

Taxes and staying in control

For a recreational player, gambling winnings in Canada are generally not taxable — the CRA treats them as windfalls (Income Tax Folio S3-F9-C1).[30] If gambling is your business, the profits are income. Separately, selling or swapping crypto can create a capital gain or business income under CRA rules.[31] This is general information, not tax advice.

Questions Canadians ask

How do crypto casinos work?

You send coins to the deposit address the cashier gives you, on the network it names. After enough confirmations, the casino credits your balance. To cash out, you usually wager each deposit once, pass any ID check, and receive coins minus the casino’s fee, if any, and the network fee.

Are crypto casinos licensed in Canada?

The ones we cover aren’t. Each names an offshore licence in its own terms or footer: Curaçao for BitStarz, Roobet and Stake, Curaçao (footer served to Canada) or Tobique (terms) for 7Bit, Tobique or Anjouan for Winz. In Canada, provinces run or license gambling — Ontario through iGaming Ontario since April 4, 2022, Alberta through its own market since July 13, 2026.

Do crypto casinos require KYC?

Their terms let them ask for ID. Stake and Roobet reserve the right to request documents ‘at any time’; BitStarz asks at withdrawal. A few publish a trigger amount: Cloudbet once cumulative deposits reach 2,200 US dollars, FortuneJack once total deposits reach $10,000. Keep your documents ready before your first withdrawal.

What does provably fair mean at a crypto casino?

It lets you check a finished round yourself. The casino commits to a hidden server seed, you add a client seed, and a nonce counts your bets. Once the seed is revealed, the casino’s verifier recomputes the result. It covers the games the casino names, usually in-house titles.

Which is the largest crypto casino?

No one publishes audited market-share figures for crypto casinos, so any ‘largest’ claim is a guess. Casinos publish lobby sizes instead: Roobet says over 7,848 games, Winz over 6,000, 7Bit over 10,000 on its home page. Our ranking weighs cashier terms, not size.

Do crypto casinos have live dealers?

Many do. 7Bit lists live tables among its games, for example. Check two things: live games often count little toward bonus wagering (0% under 7Bit’s welcome bonus terms, 10% under Cloudbet’s terms), and provably fair verifiers cover in-house games rather than live streams.
